Don't abuse it.

Hey guys, and welcome to my seventh blog entry. In this entry I will be talking about cyberbullying. In case some of you are unaware, cyberbullying is the use of technology, such as cell phones and computers, to harm and torment someone else.

Cyberbullying is a growing problem among teens and young adults. Over 40% of kids have been cyberbullied and ¼ of them have been cyber-bullied more than once. Cyberbullying happens more often than face-to-face bullying. A lot of kids find cyberbullying to be the same, if not worse, then being bullied physically.

Cyberbullying and actual bullying are very much alike. They both cause some kind of pain to the victim and the outcomes are never positive. The difference between the two is that real-life bullying only happens for a certain amount of time during the day. However, with cyberbullying, there is no escape. The Internet and phone are always available and the remarks online can bounce around and linger. The victims of both types of bullying may experience low self-esteem and changes in personality. In dire situations, the victim may even commit suicide.

Is this what we want in life? To know that people, children mostly, around our age are hurting others for their own pleasure? Should a child go through pain and sorrow just for the sick satisfaction of another?

There are a lot of things we can do to prevent cyberbullying. One example is to watch the fictional movie “Cyberbully”. It is basically about a young girl who gets bullied over the Internet. She also gets bullied in school and fears what her friends will think of her. I am not going to tell you everything that happens because I don’t want to be a spoiler, but it is very good. Just put yourself in the shoes of the victim or the bully. Would you want to feel the way the characters in the movie do — hopelessly depressed or sickly satisfied? Another thing you can do is detect if a person is being bullied or if a person is a bully. You can look up some tips on the Internet.

Overall, any kind of bullying is wrong. We should not misuse and abuse technology to satisfy ourselves by tormenting others. Please be careful with what you write on the Internet. Think before you speak, and don’t let your emotions affect your actions.

Do what you want to do

Hey guys, and welcome to my sixth blog entry. Due to Hurricane Sandy and the power outages, I was unable to post this blog. I will make this blog extra long because of the inconvenience. Anyways, I am going to focus on pressure again – peer pressure to be exact. Let’s pretend you guys are divided into three groups, those who pressure others to do things, those who are being pressured to do things and those who are neither. Sometimes peer pressure is good, but other times it’s bad. I am going to focus on those who are being pressured to do things in this blog entry.

First, I would like to say to those who are being pressured to do these negative things to stand up for yourself. If you don’t want to take drugs, then don’t. If you don’t want to go to a party, then don’t. If you do want to drink that can of soda, then go ahead. The point is that you should do what you want to do. You have the choice to pick what is it that you want. We have free will, so why should we let others decide what we should do?

If I want to vote, I’ll vote. If I wish to go bowling with my friends, then I’ll bowl. I can do what i want because I’m not afraid to say no. I’m not afraid of being rejected and neither should you. Some of you might say, Well i want to keep my friends or I want to be cool and popular. I also know that some of you might be saying well who will use these reasons? Well, you will be surprised by the number of people who would base their actions on these reasons. Perhaps you use something similar to help you decide. Well, if keeping my friends, being popular, and  being accepted by those around me means that I have to do whatever my “friends’” say, then I would rather be a social outcast at the bottom of the social hierarchy. If what these people you call friends have to pressure you to do something that you are fully against, I suggest finding some new ones. What if this friend has been with you for a very long time? Well, you have to either leave that person too or change them for the better. This may seem like i want you to pressure them, but it’s not. If your intentions are good and positive, then I support you 100%. Help that person you care about before it’s too late. If they don’t want to change just leave them alone. They will come through in the end. But if this certain person is doing something life-threatening or very idiotic, then I suggest you use all the power you can to stop them.

Back to my point: We,as human beings, have the choice to do what we wish to do. Whether the action is positive or negative, they have the choice and they will be responsible for that action. I know I probably went on a little rant, but I really care about my viewers and want nothing bad to happen to you guys. So, please take what I have to say seriously. Until next week, bye guys.

Why can’t we take that step?

Hey guys. In this entry I would like to focus on bullying again. Bullying is no joking matter. We all say we are going to stop bullying and help prevent it, but when the time comes, we do nothing. Some of us just look at the kid being bullied and others have the nerve to cheer the bully on. Others are sick enough to join in with the bullying by helping the bully pick on the victim. We all say how we want to do everything we can to discontinue bullying; however, none of us do a thing. I know how some of you feel. I used to just be a bystander. Well it has nothing to do with me, so why should I worry about it, I always thought. Why should I stick my nose into something that isn’t my business? However, I was wrong.

We are just like the bully, if not worse. Thinking like this makes us selfish and uncaring. We can’t be thinking about ourselves when someone else desperately needs our help. We can’t believe that someone else will help the person out. Well, somebody is going to stand up to him/her and I don’t want to get involved. Some of you probably thought of this when you witnessed bullying. Guess what? You are not the only one who thinks this. If one of us doesn’t take action, none of us will. There is only one bully or sometimes there might be 2 or 3. However, there are more of us then there are of them. I’m not saying we should get physical; however, if we all just stand up, the bully will back down. He/she can’t bully everyone in the school.

So please take what I have to say seriously. The sooner we stop bullying, the better. Trust me when I say you have more power than the bully. So, I beg of you to take action and be a leader. Set an example and stand up to the bullies. We can all take that step to make a difference.

Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover!!!

We all do it. Sometimes we do it unconsciously. What is it I am talking about? Well my little followers, I am talking about judging. Sometimes, our judgments are innocent and harmless, but others times our judgments can be rude and insulting. For instance, we judge the popular girl. We think she has the perfect life, but in reality she is suffering from bulimia. Another example is when we judge the weird kid in the back of the classroom. We think he is strange and unusual, but we don’t know that he is undergoing painful treatment in order to recover from cancer. I’ve been a victim of judgement as well. People thought I was a bully, but when they got to know me, they found out I’m actually a kind person.

The point is that we shouldn’t assume we can read someone’s life story just by the way he or she looks. I barely know what my life is about, so why should I guess another person’s? An individual’s appearance is just a distraction from who they really are in the inside. They can look like a mean, horrible, awful person, but turn out to be sweet, friendly, helpful, and fun to be with.

So, my loyal followers, I would like you to go out and talk to that kid in the corner or the most popular jock in school. Compare what you thought of the person to what you actually learn about the person. I’m not asking you to be best friends, but a little conversation won’t hurt anybody.

Do you ever feel it?

Hey guys, and welcome back. So let me tell you a little something about what happened the other day. I was coming out of my Spanish class, and I just burst into tears. Yes, KitKat was crying in the middle of the halls. Some of you might ask “What caused these tears?” Well, here is the answer to that simple question — pressure and stress. I’m trying so hard to be the best that I can be that I finally snapped. I try to please everyone around me so much that I didn’t realize how much strain I put on myself. Luckily, I had my friends to cheer me up and make me feel better.

For those of you in elementary school, I know how hard it is passing all those exams and finals and trying to get into the high school you wish to go to. For those of you who are in high school, I know how hard it is to try your best to ace all of your tests, as well as doing all your homework. Not to mention that Regents exams, SATs, and PSATs are going to be here before we know it. For those who are in college, I can only imagine all the work and tests professors give to you. And to those who work, I now understand the beauty of alcohol (not that I support your decision to use it daily). The point of this is that I understand, as do many other people in the world, how hard it is to impress. However, we should know our limits and don’t push them. Also, we shouldn’t be afraid to let a tear fall here or there. You will have friends and family to pick you up when you fall. And if you are looking for someone else to help you, I’m always here.

So I would like you guys to comment, if you wish to, on a moment in your life when you felt so much pressure that you snapped. Maybe you cried or maybe you punched a wall. Maybe you did something I wouldn’t imagine. So please leave a comment and tell me how you feel. Remember that it is my pleasure to help. And to end this blog, I would like to say dedicate this blog to all my friends. I love them with all my heart and wouldn’t be who I am without them in my life. Thank you guys for being there for me and accepting me for me. And thanks for always catching me when I fall. I appreciate every single one of you guys.

What Would You Do?

Hey guys and welcome to blog entry #2. Today I am going to focus on bullying. I witnessed some bullying a couple of days ago and guess what I did? Nothing, zip, nada. I know what some of you might be thinking now, How are you making a blog about helping bullies, the bullied, etc. and you didn’t even do it yourself?. Well if you were in my position, and I am sure a lot of you guys were some point in your life, you can understand that I felt absolutely powerless at the moment. I’m a young teenage girl and there was a huge group of guys; what is a person like me supposed to do? This is my mistake. I could have done numerous things. For example, I could have gone up to the bullied boy and ask if he was okay or maybe warn someone of higher authority. I could have done something.

This is what I want you guys to do. I want you to be the opposite of what I was at that moment. I want you to take action and stand up for others who can’t do so themselves. So please take my advice and don’t have this guilty feeling I am have right now. Be somebody different, somebody who will take a stand for others. That is all I am asking for. Perhaps I won’t be a coward myself and take my own advice but since there are a million people stronger than I am, and since some of them are reading this, I beg you to listen to what I have to say and take it to heart.

Before I end this post, I would like your comment on something. Imagine this, a girl your age is getting bullied because she is slower than everybody else. She gets verbally teased every day and is very lonely. One day, you see her getting bullied again by these groups of boys. What would you do in this situation? I want your answer − not just the right one. Please think of this while in school, work or wherever you are. Until next time, bye everybody!
